The Space for Expatriates

I'm looking at Guadalajara as my possible new home for several reasons.

  • I like big cities
  • I like cosmopolitan envirnoments with arts and cultures from all over
  • But I can't give up Japanese food ;-)
  • Easy transportation
  • Good medical services. I'm pretty healthy but at 75 need potential
  • Low cost. Have to live on $1500 a month
  • Politically progressive expats around
  • Ability to establish a small counseling practice with a large expat community (I do speak fair Spanish but not fluent enough to do in-depth therapy.)
  • Rentals in the $5000MXP+- for small two-bedroom (One for consultorio)
  • Moderate summer and winter weather. I love Mazatlan and have vacationed there over the last 30 years, but would prefer not to put up with summer heat.

I plan to visit Guadalajara this summer. Any particular Colonias or areas that I should consider. Anything that I should just rule out? Cautions. Suggestions.

Go to Facebook and find Mercy Duenas. She can provide good advice.

Thanks I'll do that. Mazatlan has a great Yahoo group where residents and visitors can exchange information. Haven't found anything like that for Guadalajara.
