Sounds great! I'm looking forward to meeting one of my MMS friends live and in person! If there's anything I can do to help you plan your trip please let me know.

Hey Carol,
I WILL try to stop in while we are in Cabo. I am very interested in seeing/hearing about the real estate market in the area. I mostly represent property in Manzanillo, but would love a contact in the Cabo area for my clients who wish to look there! I loved your blog on souvenirs. I have found that to be the case in Manzanillo, as well. But I never really thought about sharing that great 'insider' info. I look forward to our trip and hopefully a chance to meet you, too!

You've got a great spot on one of our nicest beaches. You're in easy reach of all the places I mentioned, but you'll probably want a rental car to really enjoy the area. Taxis are a bit spendy here. You'll have a kitchen, so you'll want to go to CCC (a grocery store), see my blog on souvenirs. As long as you've got a car consider driving to Todos Santos one day, it's a pretty drive all my guests enjoy and there are several really good restaurants. Since it's open range you don't want to drive it at night (cows sleep on pavement) so it's nice to go up and have a leisurely mid-day meal. You picked a very nice resort, and it's only a few blocks from me.... stop by and say hi!

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the suggestions! We are staying at Villa Estancia condos at the tip of Cabo. I must be honest, I really didn't pay attention to the exact location as a friend booked it! We will definitely check out your suggestions!

Where in the area will you be staying? For the Cabo San Lucas side: dinner at Maria Corona is great, Taco's Chava is a great breakfast or lunch. Favorite whale watching cruise is the Risalena. If you dive, it's gotta be with Amigos del Mar. That's a start, anyway.

We will be going to Cabo area in January. Does anyone have some favorite places to visit, favorite restaurants, best shopping areas? I am looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

Excellent news. Thanks for the update Doug. I'm hoping the Mexican government pulls out all stops and promotes tourist in the US and Canada to come to Mexico. A return of tourism to previous times will do much to pull much of the Mexican economy out of the dodrums and will certainly improve the real estate market (and the Mexican economy.

Thanks Doug. That is great news for Los Cabos.

Cabo's Mile-long Airstrip Goes International!
On November 5th, State Secretary of Tourism Alberto Trevino announced that the airstrip north of Cabo San Lucas has finally acheived status as an International aerodrome. This will make "Cabo San Lucas International" the fourth official international airport in Baja California Sur, giving the state the distinction of having two more than any other of Mexico's 31 states.
Part of the first year restriction will be that the airstrip can only receive charter flights, not regularly scheduled airlines. However Trevino noted that the State and Federal Departments of Tourism and Departments of Transport would be making joint trips to the US to encourage the major airlines to consider beginning negotiations for regular scheduled carrier routes. Plans are under way to install Immigration, Customs, Public Safety and ground handling crews in the next few weeks.
The airport will now also become a direct destination for private aircraft with sufficient fuel capacity to make the trip from US Port of Entry airports.
Now the pressure will be on to build the bypass road around the barrios that nearly surround the airport. This will definitely have an effect over the next couple of years on the viability of new resorts like Diamante, with it's Davis Love III links-style golf course.
The airport has seen lots of construction lately with a new modest terminal building, hangars and fuel facility having been installed. It is owned by the Romo family and originally was paved by foreign private pilots back in the mid-1980's.
Effects on the current Los Cabos International airport at San Jose del Cabo (SJD) are not clear, but should be minimal until at least next year.
Expect the race to be on to get the permits for transporting passengers, providing food and other services to the site. Congratulations to Sebastian Romo and his family!
