I scanned this pamphlet that they hand out here at the GENERIX pharmacy - I am not endorsing anything but thought that it would be interesting for those on the internet to see what the GENERIC medicine costs here in Guadalajara.
The columns say GENERIC NAME , BRAND NAME, BRAND NAME COST, GENERIX COST, SAVINGS %. THIS IS FROM JANUARY 2009 pamphlet.

I have told this story before so if you have heard it, just ignore. Two years ago, my Dentist in Philadelphia prescribed some major dental work which would include six extractions and six implants. The cost she projected would be about $34,000. Friends in San Miguel de Allende were having some similar work done there. They told me the cost was about $3600 for the kind of work I was considering.
Last February, I went to see my friends' dentist in San Miguel. After taking a full mouth ex-ray series and performing close examinations, she pronounced me sound of tooth and nail, er, gum. No operation required. The cost for the x-rays, which she game me, was $15.00 The examinations cost $25.00 Suffice it to say that I am sold on Mexican medical care!

I heard the Cima Hospital Group out of Hermosillo, Sonora is accepting U.S. insurance for treatment in their hospitals.

We just had the Flying Samaritans here who said it was the most successful clinic they've had in San Felipe. Dr. Abasolo's new surgical clinic is very nice. If we could just get a VA hospital down here, we'd be fine - as some of our elderly Vets have to drive to San Diego to be treated. Bummer for them. I, of course, am covered under Seguro Social - need I say more?

Pablo, great post, thank you! And thanks for the link to medicareinmexico.org, that site is extremely informative and needs to be dispersed by each and every one of us to all of our contacts. We all need to keep up the fight for as long as it takes to have the healthcare we've paid for over the years where ever we happen to retire to.

It’s good news for Americans in Mexico that American health insurance companies are getting involved in Mexico. But for those of us over 65, didn’t we already make payments for medical insurance these past 30 or 40 years to Medicare? So why aren’t we entitled to collect on that investment, especially when we live in a place where medical services are far less expensive and we could be helping Medicare save on payouts?
Well, we can wait around for officials at the upper levels of Government to decide if and when Medicare for qualified ex-pats is going to be extended to Mexico or we can get involved. There is an organization promoting Medicare as a demonstration project. It’s called Americans for Medicare in Mexico. www.MedicareInMexico.org
Congress is totally distracted by the overall healthcare debate at the moment so all we can do this year is lay the groundwork. Remember, Medicare is a public option and it was won by much hard work and against all the pressures of private insurers. The same battle is being fought today over the Public Option. So anything we do this year to support the Public option will make it easier for us to promote Medicare here in the coming years.

I live in Rosarito Beach, Baja California, Mexico, about twenty miles south of San Diego, CA. Awhile back I bought a pair of Nu-Ear hearing aids in San Diego for $5,000.00 a pair. They work well, and I get good service. However, I recently discovered Dr. Roberto J. Farias M in Tijuana. He is an ear, nose, and throat specialist with great credentials. I visited him. He sells Starkey hearing aids for only $1,000 a pair.

You can reach him via telephone at 664-681-9434 or via email at imasrfarias@hotmail.com.

To get there from Rosarito Beach drive north on the free road and turn right on Agua Caliente. Continue for about two miles, passing the hippo drome and the Mariott Hotel on the right. When you reach Calle Margarita, you’ll see a professional building on the right. Turn right after passing the building, and right again, then right again into secure and covered parking in the building.

I don't usually do this but one of our members sent me this information. Because this is a new group I will post the info:
"Just to let everyone know the cost of a complete face lift in the hospital here in SMA is roughly $4500 to $5000 USD. I had a consultation the other day. I'm not ready yet but may consider it down the road a bit."
