Zihuantanejo Restaurant 3 Replies

I will be in Zihuantanejo next week.  Can anyone recommend a restaurant with great food and an awesome view of the bay at sunset?  Thanks

I am celebrating my 70th birthday here at the Viceroy, aka The Tides....The property did not change hands. The Viceroy Group decided to consolidate all its hotels under one name,  so it phased out The Tides brand.  the best place on Playa Ropa. ks tell me NOW is the time to get a great deal on a condo here.

Catherin Krantz from the Zihuat magazine and web site, " Another Day In Paradies",  is here with us for Thanksgiving dinner. I will ask her and let you know.

If anyone hears of someone who would like to do a house exchange for 6 mos to a year and wants to come to San Miguel de Allende I would be interested in swapping.   I will be back in Zihuatanejo in June for 2 weeks but would like to experience all seasons before I consider moving down permanently.

Although I've toured Brisas del Mar (checked out two of the rooms, rest of facilities), I've never stayed there. However, it looks like a very nice, upscale hotel. Attentive service.  Very clean.  Restaurant is pricey but food is good.  I've mostly stayed at Bungalows La Madera (same street, down the hill), Villas Miramar and Hotel Irma when visiting Zihuatanjeo. I really do NOT like Playa La Madera itself (water is cloudy, sand is somewhat rocky) but the area is great (views spectacular from Irma--drinks/lunch) as a jumping off point for the restaurants along Calle Adelita and the quick walk into Centro (malecon or street side). You can actually walk to Playa La Ropa from Brisas del Mar if you're hardy stock.

This year (er, 2012) we will stay at Brisas del Mar on our winter visit to Zihua. Our first time staying on Playa Medera, which brings us even closer to Ta-Ta's, the restaurant on the beach where the Red Snapper is, caught, grilled and served while you are enjoying you first carafe of white wine. Anyone been to Brisas del Mar?  Ray, I knoew you are a Playa Madera expert. Give me some tips please. Many Thanks,

Fred

We are going to be spending New Year's Eve in Zihua. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this and who might have suggestions or insights about what the holiday is like there and what we might plan to do. We are not Times' Square types; more like a dinner and a bottle of champagne to share while we watch the fireworks.

Thanks for the trip report, Fred. Sounds like you had a great vacation. I'm heading down there in late March for a week. Staying at Hotel Irma on Playa La Madera. Will be at La Ropa often but definitely staying away from Tentaciones, Kau Kan. Too pricey for me. Will check out Tatas at Playa Principal. Love Bananas for breakfast. Don't be surprised if you're disappointed with Coconuts. Was there in early January. They have a new menu, good service but I still thought the food/ambiance did not live up to the hype.

Next time there, check out The Residences at Sotovento. Hard to find better value, quality and view. My company has done all of the legal work obtained permits, etc.

Also look for the new version of Another Day in Paradies. Same owner as before( Catherine Krantz and I think she also has a new restaurant guide. Google, " Another Day in Paradise."
