Permalink Reply by James M. Martin on January 31, 2012 at 5:34pm My favorite, more at breakfast than sunset, is on Zicatela Beach, Carmen's Cafecito. I have taken my two sons to Puerto twice now, and they speak so fondly of it in part because of the wonderful meals we had at Carmen's on the Beach, a sort of big palapa with a terrace for people watching and ogling handsome Mexican surfers going in and out of the Pipeline. We always stay at the Ines, and we ask for the same room, but the first thing we do is go down to Carmen's for the best all-round food in town. (Well, at least on the south side of the Sweetwater Lagoon. I assume there are some super chi-chi places in the Playa Carrizalillo area, which is where Carmen got her start. But you have not had breakfast until you have had Carmen's fresh bread french toast. The coffee is Mexico's finest: pluma Hidalgo, whose beans are grown just up the hill a ways. I had a quiet evening treating one son to her enchiladas, and he raved about them.
