BTW, thanks for your comments about the blog. It is a labor of love and a whole lot easier than typing up a trip letter to send to my brother in Ajijic and other brother here in Corpus Christi. I must say, though, Apizaco has what has to be the ugliest cathedral I have ever seen in Mexico. And what is that huge gated park a few blocks west of it? (We only drove down the main drag, stopping in at an Oxxo to ask for directions to Apam.) I think it's great that you can do tours, which presupposes excellent command of Spanish. I might have gone that route myself when younger, but my Spanish is pretty minimal. However, as my younger brother here says, "Puedo defenderme." Since Mexicans never quite get that, I add, "Cuando estoy in las cantinas." (Actually, I have forgotten whether cantina is masculine or feminine, but they always get the point.)

Hey! We went through Apizaco a couple of times, going and coming to Huamantla. I had exchanged emails once or twice with a younger woman who said that her father lived there and I was wondering if that might be you. From the look of the place, somehow I cannot imagine that too many gringos live in Apizaco! What draws you to it? I suppose it must be inexpensive, as it has nothing to draw tourists, and it is close to Puebla, Cholula, and, of course, as you mention, Tlaxcala. What are the rents like, or do you own? How long have you been there?

Bobby,
My name is Lisa and my husband's is Nelson. We have a question for you since it seems you are well established in Tlaxcala. We are buying a house in Taxco and we are not going through any realtor. We are buying directly from the seller and going through a notario. Our problem is we don't know exactly how to transfer the money for the down payment and then to close the deal. Actually, we know how to transfer the money but we are afraid that things could go wrong and seller would run off with hefty down payment, etc. Do you have any suggestions on how to dothis process more efficiently and to make it less scary. We will be going to Taxco in mid March to hopefully close. We would appreciate as much info as you could give us from a first hand experience. Thanks so much, Lisa

Hi Bob, Thanks for the welcome. I never heard of Tlaxcala. Where exactly is it? I haven't ventured out of the TJ/Rosarito area as yet. Can't wait to though. When I do you bet I will bring some grits and whatever else you said you wanted.

Atlixco looks like the perfect place for us except for its size. 150,000 habitantes! Is there such a place that is a third of this size at the largest? Perhaps one of the pueblitos near Atlixco.

Thanks, Bobby

Bobby,
I lived in SMA thirty years ago when it was still a Mexican city. Our hideout in Colima is going the way of SMA. I was hoping I found a new refuge from Gringolandia in Malinalco but my first hint that it was primarily for chilangos ricos was when I noticed that many of the restaurants were open only on the weekendsl. Tlaxala is a beautiful little place but frigid in the winter.
Do you know of any place in Mexico that is warmer, just as beautiful as Tlaxcala y donde la mayoridad de gente son puros Mexicanos y pequenito como Tlaxcala?
