What city and state
Bucerias, Nayarit
If in Mexico, how long have you resided there?

Tell us about yourself, type of business, last employment
The first time I vacationed in Mexico I felt like my heart belonged there. When I discovered Bucerias I knew I had found "home."
After family and friends, teaching is my first love. I taught all grades and various subjects: High school and junior high English; Elementary classroom; and Elementary Music and Phys Ed
Now I teach English to Bucerias children from 3-12 at the Bucerias Bilingual Community Centre.
Bucerias and Mexico have been very good to me. Medical issues make Alberta's extremely dry climate dangerous for my health. In Mexico I have found the humidity necessary to prevent the severe nosebleeds which were once a frequent part of my life. Here in Bucerias, I share time with wonderful friends, my loveable students and enjoy every day I spend in paradise.
To my family: I wish you were here.

CELEBRATION MEXICAN STYLE

Music ... dance... they are such an important part of the Mexican culture. Last night we celebrated the first anniversary of Hugh and Simone at the Twisted Rose in Bucerias- The Cuban Salsa Band kept the dance floor full as Mexicans and Gringos partied together. Colorful balloons, candlelight, and palm trees in this open air bar and restaurant lent an air of romance, community and the Mexican spirit. As always Hugh greeted every person making them feel like they were part of family. This is why… Continue

Nothing Stays the Same: In Tribute to 3 Special Friends

There is no permanence in life, my friends. Today I learned another friend in Mexico has died. That makes three since May. No, these were not H1N1 victims: they were my friends from Mexico who suffered from varying health issues. These were people who like me had felt the pull of Mexico on their heart strings and answered it's call. Unlike me, they had made homes and lives there, and committed to it fully by living in Bucerias year round. And each year as I returned they welcomed me back to the… Continue

MEXICO REPLACES CUSTOMS STAFF

This article was posted by "SMM" Sean on the Bucerias Yahoo group August, 19, 2009.

This should be of interest to the majority of the group. Those driving into
Mexico should probably expect longer border crossing times, and should
definitely avoid crossing on a Sunday afternoon or evening.

RETIRED??? What Do You Do All Day

A friend pondering the idea of being in Mexico for six months recently asked me, "What would I do down there? Two weeks holiday is one things; 6 months is a whole different ball game." And yes, that is so very true. What do people do when they are down here for six months? For those who aren't selling real estate or running B&B's, there's a whole lot of time (and I wouldn't give a second of it up).

I have spent the past two winters in Bucerias looking for a house, buying the house, and impr… Continue

Why Would I Want to Learn Spanish?

Reading George Puckett's blog re "How"s Your Spanish, led me to ask another question. Why would I even WANT to learn Spanish?

Now that is the question I really want to answer. Consider how we in Canada and the US feel when "foreigners" make no effort to adapt. Communication is what brings people together. Try to speak Spanish to a local and notice the friendliness in their eyes. Although my sentences may not be grammatically correct, my Mexican friends get an idea of what I am saying and are th… Continue

Hi, Thanks for the comment. I lost track of my files just after posting. Well, I went to San Sebastian for the rest of summer, and now I'm needing to find a place to rent in the Bucerias area. Hopefully not expensive. I had an apartment in the mountains for 1800 pesos a month. I am hoping you are connected with some sort of links where I might look for an apartment near Bucerias, for no more than 2500 for a one bedroom. I am an oil painter, and on foot. Thanks so much, Katheryne

Hi Linda - well I firstly apologise that when you wrote to me I had just left for England to celebrate a landmark birthday and was gone a month. Finally I got back and am now doing all the things that are important but were not so urgent and here I am! I was involved a bit with the BBCC this year in Summer School but have not taught English classes since Easter. I will join in more on this site now I have re-esablished myself and found a new password! In October I am looking forward to getting back to fiddling in the orchestra down in PV and to seeing all those who escaped for the summer months. Normally I am here all year, just this year felt like getting older amongst family and friends. Must find some photos to upload! Bye for now and thanks for your friendship!

Hi Bob,
I hope to arrive in Bucerias November 1, 2009, barring unforseen circumstances. I'd love to meet with you and can even show you around if you like. If you want any more information before you come down, let me know that as well. We can certainly talk from here. I have skype and it's a no cost call.

Hi Linda,
It looks like you like the Bucerias area. I have only had limited exposure to the area, but what I saw of it the last time was promising. I will be on a mission Nov 10-15 to find out as much as I can about living in the PV area. Would you be willing to meet for a chat in PV or Bucerias on one of my days there?

Hi Christina, It must have been a different Linda Watson as I was married at that time and my last name was Lauer. I don't think I even came to Puerto Vallarta before 1998. But who knows... maybe one day you will meet THIS Linda watson... I'd enjoy that.
