Hello Mike. San Miguel de Allende has various areas and various prices. In the "gringo" areas the prices can go very high... I know of one person who recently bought a fairly large lot for $750,000. I have bought in an area that is mostly Mexican families with a sprinkling of gringos. I only spent $40,000 on my lot which is approximately 300 square metres. There is a new development nearby called "Vista Antigua" which looks nice. You can look at this on line at http://www.coatesdolan.com/ There are lots of places being developed in the area.
I believe that San Miguel is considered on the expensive side of the interior areas of Mexico. This town has a rather large artistic community which I like a lot. The weather is the best I have ever experienced. This time of year can be cool at night but not horribly... rarely to 0. The days are still warm. I personally don't like hot and humid so it suits me fine. It gets quite warm in May but still nice sleeping weather.
Now dancing.... I am learning to salsa. There are quite a few places you can learn all kinds of dancing at. I attend free salsa dance lessons every Wednesday night in a bar called Mama Mia's and then we all go to a club with salsa music. A friend is learning tango which is a little more advanced than me... I also know another friend who teaches african dance. In the main park of the town (Parque Juarez) every Saturday morning there is a "Zumba" class which is aerobics to a latin beat. For 20 pesos you can join the other 200 or more people who are all smiling and having a wonderful time. Sundays it is in the main square.
Try it. A lot of people, myself included, find this town somewhat magical. I loved it the moment I set foot in it 13 years ago and I miss it terribly when I am not there.
Hi Mike. We are in the Sonoran Desert here right on the coast of the Sea of Cortez/Gulf of California. In the summer months (July, August, September) there are some days that when you add in the humidity to the heat the "feels like" temperature is around 42 C.. The humidity is a big factor here in the summer.
In the winter we go down to about 10 C. and highs of around 24C. in January. Right now the highs are around 28-30 C. and the lows are around 19 or so. This is not a temperate climate. It might be a good idea for you to look more inland as anywhere on the coast usually has a hot/humid summer. I have heard that around Lake Chapala area they say the weather is like a permanent spring. Personally I would freeze there right now lol. Hard to find a perfect climate. As you get more inland and get higher in elevation the winters get quite cold, remember that houses here have no heating devices in them other than the odd fireplace and then you will have to buy wood from somewhere. Might be some ESL positions available in Guadaljara (sp?) as it is a big university city; but remember it is also the second biggest city in Mexico next to Mexico City. San Miguel de Allende has more temperate weather but it gets pretty chilly there in the winter also. Both Lake Chapala area and San Miguel also have lots of expats from the USA and Canada. Happy hunting.
Nasty weather; but guess it will only get worse for a few months. It is nice here now the horrible heat has disipated and it is lovely now.
Good luck with your job hunt.
In Ajijijic there is an american guy who has a trucking company that does all that. Even from the states. I cant remember the name but if you know anyone in the chapala area youll find him. He also has a wine store. Both offices are on the major h...
Well, it’s no secret I hate most Mexican banks. For good reason, I might add. Today I’m having the less-than-pleasant experience of closing two accounts we’ve had since about 1990. With things being as they are I figure others will want to do the ...
