Day of the Dead in La Paz

The air smells like cinnamon. You can feel the pulsing music. We are following our noses and the beat of the music and the crowd. The outdoor stage is lit in ghostly pale, icy, blue and white lights. We left Silicon Valley in 2000 with our hair on fire.
We bought a house, rehabbed it and sold it 5 years later. In that time I have been writing for the local English Language paper, the Gringo Gazette, International Living, and Mexico Insider.
I have sold real estate and continued originating mortgages in California from La Paz, until 2005.
In 2005 we built our dream home on the beach. It is now for sale.
I went to work for ConfiCasa Mortgage doing loans for Americans and Canadians seeking to finance Mexican properties. I left them in September 2008 and am happy that I did.
I write, I sew, I collect shells, love to cook, love to read, and am ready to find a new place to live.
I rent my guesthouse, the "HoneyMoon Hut".
My husband is the science editor at a federal (MX) research agency located at the end of our beach.

Susan Fogel's Blog

I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

Have you noticed that Ihave been eerily silent and invisible?

No I have not perfected a cloaking device.

The last quarter of 2009 was fraught with techno-nightmares for me.

Someone hacked my blog and installed malware. After many tries to remove the invaders, my daughter and personal tech support person, gave up and took down my blog.

It is back now and ready for you to read at www.mexicomusings.com.

Then, everytime I… Continue

Margarita Mind: How to Avoid It; A Guide to Buying Mexico Real Estate Safely & Sanely Here's the first chapter!

THE BOOK IS COMPLETE

It's ready! I did it! I beat my deadline and completed my first e book! It wasn't easy, my computer started overheating, the internet went down just when I needed to send it to my webmaster, and my Adobe 8.0 just refused to let me secure the document.

My web designers are angels and have taken a lot of the load off of me.

Without the editing expertise of my husband Ira, I would never been able to meet the deadline. He is a professional editor, my… Continue

The Beaches are FREE!

The Beaches are Free!

Oh yes they are. In Mexico the beaches must always be accessible to anyone that would like to use them…on foot. Just as in California, Oregon, Washington and points north, driving on the beach is illegal and carries a huge fine.

Here in Baja California Sur where the law is fluid, and the local police are not highly trained, the words “the beaches are free” translates to: drive anything, do anything, and leave your garbage which includes dirty diapers ON THE… Continue

Yes, Susan, my web site is www.mexicomike.com. Have had it since 1986. Excuse me for not knowing, but could you send me some information about your book? Thanks. Oh and I would be interested in talking to you privately about your experiences with ConfiCasa. I, too, was in that business for awhile. Since you say you are happy you left, I suspect our experiences may have been similar.

Hey there,
Thanks again for the recommendation to MMS. George is delightful and very welcoming. I noticed the string regarding the SMA shoes. Not only does Martha make the combat/cocktail sandal others have referred to, she also make the best tacónes. The 3-4 inch heel is a knock off from Prada and can withstand any SMA cobble stone street without fear of twisted ankles and broken shoes. They are now the only shoes I buy. Looking forward to your visit!
Best, Wendy
