Living in Los Cabos: Whale Watching
We went whale-watching last week with friends; we were lucky enough to find one who seemed to enjoy being the center of attention. Whale-watching is one of my favorite things to do in Cabo. The whales are here from roughly December to March. The tours are quite reasonable, and although they can’t guarantee you’ll see a whale it is almost impossible not to have a great time. If you go, please use one of the professional charters who will…Continue

Living in Los Cabos: 2012 in Real Estate, Year End Report
At the end of each year I send out a summary of the real estate activity to my clients, neighbors and friends who generally want to keep an eye on our market. In recent years their most pressing question has been ‘is it finally turning around?’ This year I think they’re going to like the answer. The year 2012 was good for real estate in Los Cabos. I believe the indicators show that yes, although we still have a lot of…Continue
Living in Los Cabos: Safety Again
Amazingly, people are still asking if it’s safe to come to Cabo. So I thought one way to answer that would be to look at today’s news. I get two sources of local news: one is a very accurate news blog; the other is the headlines from the local TV station sent as a digest every morning. So let’s see what stories I read with my morning coffee today…
The news blog, Colectivo Pericú, is done by a group of independent journalists…Continue
Now if you’re looking for a blog on Christmas customs in Mexico you might want to keep going, I’m sure there are other writers who have done a great job on the topic. This blog is about Christmas in Los Cabos, which is a horse of entirely a different color. As usual Los Cabos has their own traditions,…Continue
Something you just don’t think about when you’re moving to Cabo is how you will vote. As a US citizen you retain the right to vote in federal elections no matter where you live. How does that work? There are a couple of ways….

I was asked about the emergency phone numbers here in Cabo, so as usual I’ll blog the answer. Yes, we have emergency numbers and no, they’re not the same as in the US.
First and most important is 066. This is the Mexican equivalent…Continue

I’m usually blogging about life in Cabo and all the questions people have when they’re thinking of moving to Cabo San Lucas, or anywhere in Mexico. But once in a while I can’t help myself and have to write about real estate trends. This would be one of those…Continue
Living in Los Cabos: Are you a Caboholic?
Hi. My name is Carol and I am a Caboholic. The addiction is pretty strong, so much so that my fellow Caboholic wrote a song about it. And there’s a very, very active group on Facebook who call themselves the Caboholic Support Group. Which of course spawned a Caboholic Support Hour program on LiveCabo Radio with many songs about Cabo. And one of the most popular and requested tracks in that hour is…Continue

Living in Los Cabos: Green!
It is simply amazing how green our desert gets after a rainstorm. The amazing green in these photos was due to rain a week or so back, and after this morning’s storm it just looks amazing, doesn’t it?

As of this evening I’m going to have a new hobby. It’s going to be great fun. For the foreseeable future every evening I will be making a call to my new best friends, the English-speaking tech support agents at TelMex, and asking them why I cannot stream…Continue
One of the things we think about when placing a property on the market is what the seller is going to end up putting in their pockets when the deal is concluded. This is not my favorite part of my job because quite often I’m the…Continue

Living in Los Cabos: You Never Tire Of This
I remember a few years back hearing an agent, while showing a house with no view, telling the prospect that ocean views are highly over-rated. “In fact, after a few months, you don’t even notice them any more,” is the gist of his comment, “So they really aren’t worth the extra expense.” Bull Hockey. Obviously. I’m pretty sure I’ll never get to the point of not enjoying an ocean view, and it’s been waaay more than a few months.…Continue

So let’s finish off a few more topics on the cost of living in Los Cabos. There are a few items I didn’t get to in the last few posts, notably the cost of gasoline, propane and TV.
Gasoline is still relatively inexpensive here. The…Continue
Well, I’ve got some grocery receipts ready, so let’s continue on the cost of living discussion. Remember, once you’re here for more than a vacation you won’t be eating out every single meal. That’s the biggest source of misconception about how affordable life in…Continue
OK, today’s “Moving to Cabo” question is about the costs needed to be put into the budget for communications such as cell phones and internet. Hmm… here goes….
The most common internet provider in Cabo is Telmex,…Continue

I got an email from someone who is moving to Mexico; I’d sent some info about working in Cabo that he misunderstood. So rather than clarify myself to one person I decided to put it on the blog. So here’s what I think I know about it. Bear in mind that the law…Continue

I had a little conversation with a visitor to Cabo which prompts me to re-visit the topic of safety. Cabo is safe. Period. You can come here on vacation, retirement or work and enjoy yourself with no worries about your personal safety. That said, right…Continue

It’s been a frustrating week, and I may as well vent. I’ve got two clients, both have listed their homes with me to sell and both are completely preventing me from getting that job done. Argh! So, on the off chance someone…Continue

When we first moved to Los Cabos full time our soon-to-be-ex property manager took the time to make sure we knew all about the ins and outs of maintaining a home here. One of the stronger suggestions was that on January 1, or shortly thereafter, we…Continue
