THE BOOK IS COMPLETE
It's ready! I did it! I beat my deadline and completed my first e book! It wasn't easy, my computer started overheating, the internet went down just when I needed to send it to my webmaster, and my Adobe 8.0 just refused to let me secure the document.
My web designers are angels and have taken a lot of the load off of me.
Without the editing expertise of my husband Ira, I would never been able to meet the deadline. He is a professional editor, my biggest fan, harshest…

The air smells like cinnamon. You can feel the pulsing music. We are following our noses and the beat of the music and the crowd.
The outdoor stage is lit in ghostly pale, icy, blue and white lights. Smoke wafts up eerily from the footlights.
A line of young girls in jewel-toned, hoop –skirted, colonial dresses appears stage left. The turquoise, purple, scarlet, and emerald dresses sparkle in the stage lights. Their picture hats are wide and adorned with paper flowers and lace, their hair is pla…

The Beaches are Free!
Oh yes they are. In Mexico the beaches must always be accessible to anyone that would like to use them…on foot. Just as in California, Oregon, Washington and points north, driving on the beach is illegal and carries a huge fine.
Here in Baja California Sur where the law is fluid, and the local police are not highly trained, the words “the beaches are free” translates to: drive anything, do anything, and leave your garbage which includes dirty diapers ON THE BEACH! We have h…

My vision board says; " House sold for full price and money in the bank by December1, 2009." If you don't make an offer soon, it will be hard to meet that date.
Your new fully furnished GREEN, beach house is a magnificent one story home with two offices with custom furnishings, broadband internet , two phone lines and WI-FI.
When we say "green" we mean it;

Last night, around 7:00 p.m. as I was serving dinner of poached salmon on a bed of spinach, the lights dimmed. Deeply. Meaning they went off completely, then came back they did this three or four times. I had already lit candles for dinner, so there was no need to run around looking for them.
Darling Husband decided to get the bags of ice from the guesthouse refrigerator. "I don't want to lug them in the pouring rain and screaming wind" said he. And the rain and wind we had earlier in the day c…

If you read my post about hurricane preparedness for Divas from a few weeks back, you know I am an expert at enjoying potential weather disasters!
We are across the bay from La Paz, surrounded by a biological preserve, and not protected by the mountains.
We have had some precursor storms on Saturday and Sunday that blocked out La Paz, not even a hint of the mountains.
We have lost power a couple times, and our phone service is worse than usual with crackling and dropped calls.
Our pool is at t…

After living in a typical Mexican-built concrete block home with no insulation, single pane non tempered glass windows, shoddy and inadequate electrical systems, I vowed that my next house would have insulation, dual-pane windows, a bathtub and a fireplace.
We built our
dream home on the beach in La Paz.
four years ago and we built it green through and through.
The frame is 6 inch steel beams, clad in Dens Glass a gypsum and fiberglas…

It's that time of year again: hurricane season. The season officially opens on May 15th. That is when the
National Hurricane Center (NHC) starts sending out public advisories about hurricanes.
After experiencing four hurricanes in southern Baja, I have come to be an expert on how to prepare. And also having grown up in New Jersey where hurricanes come every year like clock work, I take every hurricane warning seriously. And I have perfected…

Just a short update:
I had a corneal transplant and cataract removed in Tijuana one month ago.
Dr. Arturo Chayet is the best in the world, and his clinic,
Codet Vision Institute is first class. Even has a café , Café 2020, and the coffee is wonderful. His staff is professional, efficient, courteous, caring and all speak English. The comfort and well being of the patient is foremost.
I am limited in what I can do right now. But I know I will…

The tide is low this morning. Mud low. That's what we called it in our childhood on the New Jersey shore. We would sit in an inch of water in a pudding of bottom sand and salt water. It looked like mud, but in fact was sand and sea in a thick mix, maybe this is what liquef…

Those are the words from a song in the hit Boradway play of the Kennedy era;
Camelot. There hasn't been a whole lot of bliss this Spring. and the only ones that have gone astray are the hacks in the US media machine.
Well here we are almost at the end of May. It has been blessedly cool down here near the Tropic of Cancer. Can this be an omen? Will we not have the fifth season "summer hell"? Here in La Paz it has heated up to 100 and dropped down again. The mornings are downright chilly,…

It’s 3:53 a.m. here at the beach in La Paz.
I look at the city lights across the bay, and at this hour when the city sleeps, it doesn’t look like there are any less lights. Yet I know there has to be fewer lights. People are sleeping. They don’t all sleep with their lights on.…

Sunrise at the oasis…put your camel to bed…oops wrong song! How about It’s just another tequila sunrise? Or in non-singing mode, we have a Pacific marine layer that has rolled in. Actually it was here yesterday. The air had a frosty look, but was actually a gentle, warm, ai…
