The Space for Expatriates

Good morning,

I hoping some of you can help me in my quest. I am working with a group of clients in California, who have asked me to supply them with testimonials from individuals (that I "do not know personally") that can testify and comment on the reality of living in Mexico, the safety issues especially. If you have a minute, can you drop me a note at rory@kizaassociates.com.

I know we all face this issue, and we have all published articles, stories, examples and comparisons between safety in the U.S. major cities and Mexico, and Baja.

If you could drop a quick note to my email above, it would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks, have a glorious day.

Rory

Great stuff Carol. Thanks for your comments. It really does help my clients to hear from people that actually live in Mexico. La Paz is also very safe as you know. The stats in some of the U.S. cities are much more frightening to me! rk

I've been full time in Cabo for 10 years, I don't remember exactly how many years before that we commuted between here and the States. I am perfectly safe here, never even think about it except when someone asks because they heard some nonsense from the US media. I rarely lock my car, and have been known not to lock the house. In all this time with such awful habits have I been a victim of crime? Well, once many years ago on a cold winter evening someone reached through the open window of our car parked downtown (back when you COULD park downtown) and filched my husbands favorite sweater. Whoever did it certainly needed that sweater more than Bob but I still haven't heard the end of it........

Yes, I've heard anecdotal reports of petty crime in this nasty economy, but NOTHING like up in the States. As a former journalist I'm shocked at the irresponsible reporting, but as Linda Ellerbee noted, it makes for good TV. The truth, evidently, is no longer of concern. And I would point out that the drugs are headed to the US, and the guns come from the US. I'd say they're the ones with the safety issues!

I am 48 (for the time being), my wife and my now 16 year old son have lived full time in Puerto Penasco Sonora. We love it very much and actually started laughing now when we hear the "talking heads" on cnn or fox telling the people in the States to not go to Mexico. No problems, except when we have to go north of the border every once in a while.

I conduct business here very much the same as I did in the States but I am having more, way more fun here.

Hi, I would agree with Nora..Guadalajara is very safe - we have 6 million people and have normal issues with crime - like any LARGE city - but all in all we feel very safe here!! Of course I am not a young thing out at the discos all night either..this is a cosmopolitan city - that is bringing in a 177 million dollar INTEL PLANT in the next three years!! Oracle is on its way too!!

Heres is a quick note for ya Ive been traveling here for 30 somthing years and seen the country change. I had a surf shop here in the 90s for 10 years, open a bar in la cruz nayarit have lived here now for 5 years only leaving once and have gone through my ups and downs. (As with everyone every where) Mexico is great The tourist zones are really well taking care of The Riviera Nayarit area is just booming. I love it.

Thanks John, I get it and fully understand! It is ashamed that that the bad press is actually crippling people from coming down and seeing for themselves what a wonderful place La Paz is to live. I did receive receive an interesting email from a Client, a Mexican National living in Monterrey, who wants to move to La Paz, because South Padre Island and McAllen have become so violent! there is a switch! Thanks again...rk

Guess I do not count since I know you. I was going to write something in another place. DO NOT VACATION IN NEW YORK CITY ... Mexico is safer, especially La Paz ( City of Peace) Am I SICK for saying what did?
Well I am just mimicking the U.S. Sate department and U.S. media.
A friend owns a boutique hotel. She said about a year ago( in the middle of the FLU scare) " First it was the drug war, then N1H1 and of course the global economic crisis. It has all but killed the Mexican tourism industry.
In one of our company newsletters I wrote about a lady in Vallarta. Se is a film producer in New York. She wrote on the Banderas Bay News, "when I am in Vallarta, I can go out to dinner with friends and come home at 10 or 11 p.m. When I am in Manhattan, I am off the street by 7 p.m., latest
Suppose that does not help you, Rory, but had to get it off my chest.
